Fluorite is a relatively common but entirely fascinating and useful mineral that is found all over the world. Known as the most colorful mineral in the world, it comes in shades of purple, blue, green, yellow, pink, red, brown, black, white, clear and virtually every shade and combination you can possibly imagine.

Not only is it colorful to the naked eye, it gives its name to fluorescence, the ability to glow under ultraviolet light and many types of fluorite may glow blue, red, purple, green or white under 'black' light no matter what color it appears otherwise. Cool, huh? Put it next to your lava lamp.
The abundant varieties of flourite mean you can choose your favorite color or pick a stone that is naturally color coordinated with several colors together to match any mood or decorative atmosphere. Fluorite is said to enhance the properties of other minerals and make one more receptive to the beneficial properties of other stones. Cubic in nature, it may come in large, fist sized chunks, or be fashioned into eggs, spheres, wands or pyramids. It is soft and can be easily carved into statues or amulets as the Egyptians and Chinese did for thousands of years. Add that to its ability to flouresce and it makes a striking and beautiful conversation piece.
